Tropfest has named the 16 finalists who’ll compete in Taranaki next month. Several familiar names appear on the list, led by Allan George, who’s won two awards and been named a finalist for every edition of Tropfest so far. This year, Lon-done makes the cut.
Nicola Peeperkoorn and Andrew Cooper won Tropfest in 2014 with Help. This year they have Meet Hamish selected as a finalist. Peeperkoorn was a producer on Tim Tsiklauri’s Crackheads, which took the Best Unfunded Feature gong at the 2014 NZ Film Awards.
David Gould, recently at the Euro Mediterranean Coproduction Forum in Italy to help raise finance for his next feature Brotherhood, has Tomorrow’s Dream (pictured, top) named a Tropfest finalist.
Nick Garrett, a 2013 finalist with Stop, returns with Lock & Key 2: Rise of the Demons among the 16. Last year Emma Schranz took Tropfest’s Best VFX gong for Charlie Floyd’s Visionarium. This year she has Be Home Soon in the finals.
Tropfest’s top prize is worth $10,000, plus a New Zealand Screen Association-supported trip to Los Angeles. Tropfest 2016 runs 27 February in New Plymouth.
