The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has named the 15 films surviving the first cull from 124 submissions.
Australians will be disappointed not to see That Sugar Film on the shortlist. Recent addition to the music-themed doco Amy (pictured, top) remains in the running.
After the next round of voting is complete, five documentary features will advance as nominees. They’ll be announced on Friday 15 January (NZ time) along with all other Oscar nominees. The Oscars will be presented on Monday 29 February (NZ Time).
