Asian First Film Festival names Kiwi finalist

Congratulations to Kiwi Malaysians producer Alex Lee and director Mei Chan. Their Love & Luksaah has been selected as a finalist in the Best Short Film category of the 5th Asian Festival of First Films (AFFF) to be held in Singapore 28 November – 4 December.

27 films have received 43 nominations as finalists across 8 categories, from an initial 700+ submissions received by the frstival. Love & Luksaah is the only Kiwi film to make the cut. The winners will be announced at the gala Awards Night that closes the festival, held at the Raffles Hotel Ballroom on 4th December.

The AFFF jury includes award winning filmmakers and internationally-acclaimed producers – Australian Ana Kokkinos (Head On, The Secret Life of Us, Blessed); 2007 AFFF Best Director winner, Indian Kabir Khan (Kabul Express, New York); and former head of Columbia/TriStar Pictures, Hawaiian Chris Lee (Jerry Maguire, As Good As It Gets, Philadelphia, Valkyrie, Superman Returns, Superman: Man of Steel).

Producer Alex Lee said, “We believe that the nomination underlines the growing Asian film and TV talent within New Zealand.”
