Attitude gets another nod in Asia

Having won awards earlier this year in Singapore at the Apollo Awards and in Macau at last month’s Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union bash, Attitude now has NZ’s only finalist spot for the Asian Television Awards (ATA) in Singapore next month.

Attitude’s Unlocking Autism is nominated for Best Social Awareness Programme against entries from India, Malaysia and three from Singapore.

In recent years the ATA has seen a wider spread of NZ finalist nominations, with NHNZ and SPP both serial offenders.

This year it’s NHNZ stablemates, Singapore’s Beach House Pictures and Australia’s Northern Pictures, who are flying the flag. Last year BHP scored a solitary Highly Commended award from six nominations. This year it goes into the awards with a record 10 nominations, three for co-production Kakadu, made with Northern Pictures. BHP took two nods in the Cinematography category, for Kakadu and Chineseness – Li Chen.

One of BHP’s nominations is for Kids vs Film 2 in the Best Children’s Programme category. Apart from BHP, the category is a wholly Australian TV affair this year, Bushwhacked, Nowhere Boys, Wacky World Beaters and Worst Year Of My Life, Again! competing.

The Asian Television Awards are announced on 11 December. The event is part of the Singapore Media Festival, which runs 4 – 14 December and also includes the Asia TV Forum, Singapore International Film Festival, and ScreenSingapore.
