Jane Campion’s NZ-shot drama will compete against Broadchurch, The Village and My Mad Fat Diary in the Best Drama Series category. The nomination is the only one for the show at the awards.
Broadchurch, much-praised as Britain’s best homegrown drama last year, has three nominations, the others being for actress Olivia Colman and supporting actor David Bradley.
The international category sees only four nominees, but all of them have received plenty of plaudits elsewhere. Unusually for the BAFTAs, two shows not in the English language are nominated: Danish drama Borgen and French show Les Revenants aka The Returned. Also nominated are Breaking Bad and House of Cards, the latter of which those with long memories will recall began its broadcast life as a British show back in 1990.
In total, 98 programmes and individuals received nominations in the awards’ 24 categories, guaranteeing a lot of fixed smiles at the presentations in London on 18 May (UK time).
