Big Mountain names winners

The Big Mountain Short Film Festival was held in Ohakune on Saturday night, screening 19 shorts from 12 countries and handing out 7 awards.

The three-hour screening comprised the 19 films of finalists in the award categories, whittled down from 132 entries from 22 countries.

The festival showcases short films made around the world with two budget categories, below and above $1000.

Festival director Bret Gibson said, “The festival is becoming well recognized with overseas short film makers showcasing their films. We receive numerous enquiries and
when we inform [filmmakers] about how we promote the making of short films
and production/budget values they don’t hesitate to enter.

“We drive the festival as a short filmmakers festival.”
