District 9 surrendered top spot to The Ugly Truth, and dropped back to 2. It still did a very respectable $450,500 off 50 screens, taking its domestic take a shade above $1.8 million.
Internationally it’s now topped the US$100 million mark.
Sunshine Cleaning dropped back, from 4 to 6. It picked up another $95,000 off 31 for a total of almost $414,000 domestically. Separation City slipped just out of the top ten, to 11, doing $53,500 off 49 for a domestic gross of $506,000.
Newcomer The Strength of Water arrived at 12, doing $50,500 off 16 screens. Its gross is boosted to almost $91,000 by prior festival screenings.
