Prolific and respected Australian actor David Wenham (Top of the Lake, Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and NZ producer Philippa Campbell (Top of the Lake, No.2, Rain) will present sessions at the Big Screen Symposium.
Wenham will present a 90-min session for actors and take part in an In Conversation session with fellow Top of the Lake actor Robyn Malcolm.
Campbell will talk with producer Tom Hern (Lambs, Genesis) about being the NZ producer on Jane Campion’s 8 Emmy-nominated international mini-series Top of the Lake in a 90 minute session.
Best known internationally as Faramir in Peter Jackson’s critically acclaimed second and third Lord of the Rings instalments, for which he shared in the Screen Actors Guild Award®, Broadcast Film Critics Award and National Board of Review Award for Best Ensemble. He has recently appeared in Oranges and Sunshine alongside Emily Watson and Hugo Weaving; Pope Joan; Baz Luhrmann’s Australia with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman; and Public Enemies starring alongside Johnny Depp.
Most recently David directed the short film Commission featuring Hugo Weaving and Josh McConville. Commission will screen as part of the feature film collaboration of iconic Australian writer Tim Winton’s The Turning. Other contributors include Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Miranda Otto, Richard Roxburgh, Simon Stone, Robyn Nevin and Mia Wasikowska – who also plays in Stoker, directed by the BSS’ international guest Park Chan-wook.
The BSS runs 10 – 11 August in Auckland.
