The previously-announced Jane Campion will give a by-application masterclass, while Australian producer Liz Watts and Chilean writer/director Sebastian Silva join the line-up.
Silva has turned out an impressive half dozen features in an eight year career including four which have premiered at Sundance: The Maid, Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus, Magic Magic and, earlier this year, Nasty Baby.
The Maid and Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus were both awarded at Sundance; Magic Magic and Nasty Baby took awards at Sitges and Berlin respectively.
Watts has produced some of Australia’s festival successes in recent years including Cate Shortland’s Lore and two David Michôd titles, Animal Kingdom and The Rover. She’s currently involved with the American TV adaptation of Animal Kingdom.
Jane Campion’s masterclass will be a private affair, outside of the main programme. Applications for the class are now open
The Big Screen Symposium runs 10 – 11 October in Auckland. Tickets are now on sale. Early bird pricing ends 10 September.
