The Busan International Film Festival has established the Kim Jiseok Award to remember and honour the late Kim Ji-seok, who passed away in Cannes this year.
A founding member of BIFF, Kim was Busan’s Programme Director, and a champion of emerging filmmakers in Korea and around Asia for over 20 years. Fittingly, the award will recognise Asian talents, selecting its winners from the titles in Busan’s Window on Asian Cinema section. Two films will be awarded US$10,000 each.
Film critics Tony Rayns and Darcy Paquet, and Indonesian director Garin Nugroho will form the jury.
The Busan International Film Festival will run 12 – 21 October.
