Auckland-based John Callen will replace Christopher Lee as the narrator for a large-scale Lord of the Ringstheatrical concert to be staged in Germany later this month.
Best known internationally for his role as Oin in The Hobbit trilogy, the Wellington-based John Callen has appeared on NZ screens in Love Birds, The Rainbow Warrior and worked on serveal inbound and co-production titles, including SPP’s The Man Who Lost His Head, Saban’s Power Rangers and Daybreak’s Treasure Island Kids trilogy.
Lee had recorded some of the narration prior to his death in June and is still named on some event publicity as narrator.
The event, mounted by Berlin Waldbühne in a 22,000-seat arena, will feature an orchestra, choir and over 100 performers. The music will be selections from Howard Shore’s score from the LOTR trilogy, for which Shore won two Oscars.
Callen recently completed Fraser Grut’s low-budget feature Syrenia, which has a limited run at Rialto Newmarket from next Monday (10 August).
