SPADA is also excited to announce this year’s NZ On Air John O’Shea Memorial Address will be delivered by acclaimed filmmaker Dame Jane Campion at this year’s SPADA Conference.
Campion is the second of four women ever nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director and is the first—and thus far, only—female filmmaker in history to receive the Palme d’Or, which she received for directing the acclaimed film The Piano (1993), for which she also won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
In 2012 Campion completed Top Of The Lake, a six hour miniseries for the BBC and The Sundance Channel which she created and wrote with her long-time collaborator, Gerard Lee. Jane also executive produced and directed three of the six episodes. Top Of The Lake was the first television miniseries to screen at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals, and received eight Emmy Award nominations.
Jane and Gerard partnered again on Top Of The Lake: China Girl which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The miniseries was created by Jane and written by Jane and Gerard. Jane executive produced the series and directed two of the six episodes.
The SPADA Conference runs 23-24 November in Wellington.
