Cannes 2011 names Stephen Kang a winner

Stephen Kang’s short Blue has won the Canal+ Award For Best Short Film at Semaine de la Critique in Cannes.

Kang is no stranger to winning festival prizes. His first feature, {Dream} Preserved won the Overseas Koreans Independent Contest, Best Digital Feature at the Air New Zealand Screen Awards, as well as picking up an Honourable Mention (runner-up) at Australia’s DigiSPAA Digital Film Competition.

His current feature Desert opened at the Pusan International Film Festival last year and opened here just ahead of his trip to Cannes.

Blue (trailer) is the story of a former children’s TV show mascot now working in an Asian restaurant.

The win will hopefully boost Kang’s profile in Cannes. As well as attending the festival to support Blue, Kang is also seeking finance for his next feature Summer Rhapsody.
