Cannes Lions 2010 forces advertisers to party

The final presentations, including the Film and Film Craft Awards, brought to an end the advertising industry’s week in the sun. Australia did pretty darn well for itself, Egypt – possibly surprisingly – came away big winners, but the Kiwis didn’t come away completely empty-handed.

Colenso BBDO struck gold twice in the Film Craft section, both times for Going West, the delightful paper animation for the NZ Book Council. The golds were for sound design and animation.

The Kiwis received no awards in the Film section, which saw strong Australian and Egyptian entries take home a lot of gongs between them. Australia took home seven awards, the Egyptians eight.

Colenso was also nominated for the yellow chocolate campaign for Yellow Pages in the Titanium section, a sort of best in show where apples compete with oranges to be best fruit, and on the general principle that one should award award-winners with further awards.

On the night, Yellow Chocolate came away with a Silver Lion in the integrated awards, capping off a pretty decent week for the Kiwi contingent.
