The New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Moll in the new role of Investment Executive.
The formerly UK-based Moll is a BAFTA-winning producer and highly regarded senior film executive with over three decades of industry experience. Some of his most recent feature credits include Lady Macbeth, The Girl With All The Gifts, Apostasy, Adult Life Skills and The Levelling.
Having served several leadership and hands-on commissioning roles within UK regional and national screen agencies, Chris was Head of Film at Creative England for four years, designing and overseeing their development, production and film enterprise activity. Under his tenure, the company backed films including Andrew Haigh’s Berlinale winner 45 Years, Sundance success God’s Own Country, BAFTA nominated documentary Notes on Blindness, as well as more mainstream commercial work such as Spooks: The Greater Good.
Chris was also the driving force behind iFeatures, the UK’s most lauded low-budget feature film development and production lab for emerging talent. The last three films produced through the scheme premiered to great acclaim at Toronto in 2016 and 2017.
Previously, Chris spent 15 years in the independent sector, firstly with Aardman for whom he produced the Oscar and BAFTA-winning Wallace and Gromit animation The Wrong Trousers, and subsequently with his own commercials and broadcast companies Hellzapoppin Pictures and Harvest Films.
Other notable executive producer credits include Sam Taylor-Johnson’s Nowhere Boy and Terence Davies’ Cannes and BAFTA nominated Of Time and The City.
Chris’s role at the NZFC, Investment Executive, is a new one, designed to focus on assessing feature film projects for creative, financial and market potential and advising on appropriate budget levels, potential market attachment and distribution pathways to enhance the pipeline of projects moving forward into production. Chris will be part of the Development and Production team, and report to its Head, Leanne Saunders.
Chris commenced his role at the NZFC today (Monday 30 October).
