CineAlta #3

The latest issue of Sony’s CineAlta is now available, with 158 pages of words and images on the art and craft of capturing great stuff.

In the week the US lost its most senior cinema vérité documentarian Robert Drew, Emmy-nominated director Judd Ehrlich writes the vérité style of his Tribeca-premiered sports doco, We Could Be King.

There’s also cinematographer Scott Kevan on the low light challenges of Deliver Us From Evil … shooting Scarlett Johansson for Lucy … Cameraman Bob Poole on Mozambique-shot PBS doco Gorongosa … Cinematographer Steve Gainer on the first feature to shoot anamorphic with the F55, Everly

For less directly production-specific reading, there’s writer-director Alexander Berman’s APP, made with students, a MacBook Pro and no money … Cameraman Arnie Itzkowitz looks down at New York, supplying aerial photography footage for Discovery Channel and CBS among others … From a different perspective cameraman Dan Beecham on 4K underwater and the importance of accurate colorimetry in that environment … and a test with TIFFEN’s range of filters.
