Critics give 2014 two B’s

Richard Linklater’s Boyhood took the top gong, while Alejandro Inarritu’s Birdman took the most at the Critics’ Choice awards on Friday.

Birdman took away seven awards, while Boyhood left with four.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes took the VFX gong, beating out a field which included The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies.

Apes missed out in the Best Sci-fi/Horror category, in which Jennifer Kent’s Aussie feature The Babadook was also nominated. The Hobbit also lost out in the Hair & Make-up category. Having not made the nominees list earlier in the day for the Oscars, Lorde missed out on the Song gong at the Critics’ Choice.

Also missing out on Oscar nods, but having better luck at the Critics’ Choice bash were he Lego Movie (winner, Best Animated) and Doc Edge headliner Steve James’ Life Itself.
