Curious gets curious about US

Curious takes a nosey at the US, creating Curious Film US and naming Chris Breneman Head of Sales.

The US launch comes on the back of a particularly good year on the international awards stage for Curious’ commercial work. Its NZ Transport Agency spots, particularly the Taika Waititi-directed Blazed, have won the agency a rash of gongs since its release, including at June’s Cannes Lions.

Curious’ NZ director roster includes Tammy Davis (short Ebony Society, Sonny, My Older Brother and upcoming feature Born to Dance), Regan Hall (short 3 Hours, UK feature Fast Girls), Stephen Kang (short Blue, Grand Prix at Cannes Critic’s Week and feature Desert), Zia Mandviwalla (Oscar-qualified multiple award-winning short Night Shift) and sometime vampire Taika Waititi.

Curious’ Sydney-based Peter Grasse was among the speaker line-up announced for July’s Hollywood A-List Film Craft event. The A-List also has an awards competition. Among the judges were Jeff Baron and Eric Stern from Anonymous Content, also the home of the first speaker announced for this year’s Big Screen Symposium, Alix Madigan-Yorkin.

At last year’s bash this ad, for Vodafone Ireland, took gongs in most of the awards’ 12 categories.

Closer to home, the distribution part of Curious is prepping its limited ANZ release of Kelly Reichardt’s Night Moves, which has also played in this year’s NZIFF.
