Curtis a winner at Arts Awards

Cliff Curtis was named one of five Laureates at the Arts Foundation of New Zealand awards on Monday night in Auckland.

Previous screen laureates include directors Barry Barclay, Jane Campion, Leanne Pooley and Gaylene Preston, who’s currently a trustee and governor of the Arts Foundation. Alongside Curtis, the other recipients of the $50,000 Laureate awards were poet Geoff Cochrane, composer Ross Harris, choreographer Charles Koroneho and visual artist Lisa Reihana.

Among the $25,000 New Generation Award recipients were the team of Vela Manusaute and Anapela Polataivao. Awarded for their theatre work, the pair behind Kila Kokonut Krew also converted their The Factory Story into a webseries last year with support from NZ On Air.
