Prime Minister John Key announced the appointment yesterday of Dame Patsy Reddy to the role of Governor-General of New Zealand. She’ll succeed Sir Jerry Mateparae on 14 September and hold the office for five years.
Reddy recently conducted the review of the Intelligence and Security agencies with Michael Cullen.
As Chair of the New Zealand Film Commission, she’s helped steer the agency through some unpleasant times, including the review of the NZFC by Sir Peter Jackson and Australian academic David Court. She’s also been a champion for the industry as a whole.
Following government’s decision, after two prolonged reviews, not to alter incentive rates when the industry was suffering a downturn in 2013, Reddy was instrumental in persuading government to revisit the issue. The resulting improved rates have delivered a huge amount of inbound production to our shores since being implemented in April 2014.
