Dark Horse shines in Seattle

The Dark Horse took the Audience Awards for Best Film and Best Actor at the USA’s largest film festival, the Seattle Film Festival, over the weekend.

450 films played in this year’s programme, with over 90,000 votes cast. The Dark Horse beat runners-up from Disney (Inside Out), Sundance winner Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and Shaun the Sheep.

Taking Best Actor, Cliff Curtis beat former wizard Sir Ian McKellen (Mr Holmes), and Theeb’s Jacir Eid.

The Dark Horse took six awards at last year’s NZ Film Awards as well as festival awards in Palm Springs, Rotterdam, San Francisco and Washington DC.

Jason Lei Howden’s Deathgasm and NZ co-production titles Slow West and Turbo Kid also played the Seattle festival.

The Seattle International Film Festival closes today (Monday 8 June) NZ time.
