Directors’ Fortnight stays close to home

Local boy Thomas Cailley’s Love at First Fight took the major gongs from Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. 17 feature films were selected in competition for the sidebar, among them Zak Hilditch’s Australian feature These Final Hours.

The sidebar event doesn’t offer its own prizes, but some of the sponsors provide awards. Love at First Fight (Les Combattants) took the three prizes available for features: the Art Cinema Award, the Society of Authors and Composers (SACD) prize and the Europa Cinemas award.

The Illy short film prize went to Nara Normande and Tião’s Brazilian short Heartless (Sem Coração).
