Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the Peter Jackson-produced District 9, on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on December 29 everywhere else, but Kiwis get the chance to return to South Africa on December 16 under a special exemption deal.
The US$114 million-grossing film, which is nudging $2.5 million at the local box office, will help cap off a fourth quarter already packed with a number of blockbusters, including Transformers 2, Up and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
District 9 will be priced at $49.95 for Blu-ray, $39.95 for two-disc DVD and $34.95 for single DVD.
Bonus features focus on facts about the movie’s filmmaking, such as its use of a South African slum for the movie’s setting. The three-part documentary The Alien Agenda: A Filmmaker’s Log comes with all Blu-ray and DVD versions.
Blu-ray exclusives are expected to include the interactive map ‘Joburg From Above: Satellite and Schematics of the World of District 9,’ marking a new type of bonus feature from Sony.
