In an appropriately egalitarian Kiwi manner, all nine local documentaries screening in this years’ Doc Edge Festival are nicely nominated as finalists for the festival’s awards, although not all will compete in all categories.
The awards up for grabs are Best Short, Best Feature, Best Emerging NZ Filmmaker, Best Director, Best Editor and Best Cinematography, plus a special award for Best Contribution to the NZ Documentary Industry. Last year the inaugural Best Contribution award went to Gaylene Preston.
The NZ films screening and competing in the Doc Edge Festival are Dirty Bloody Hippies, Donated to Science, I Am the River, Is She Or Isn’t He?, The Jade Bell Story , Stand Up and shorts (<45 minutes) Hiding Behind the Green Screen, Landscapes at the World’s Ends, Lest We Forget: NZer’s Telling their Holocaust Stories.
The winners will be announced at the Doc Edge Gala Night on 24 February.
