DOC Pitch names 2016 contenders

14 projects are named for this year’s DOC Pitch, which will run as part of the Auckland leg of the Screen Edge Forum.
Some familiar names are in the mix this year. Director Bryn Evans (pictured, top) and producer Paula Jones (Hip Hop-eration) are named with the story of Kiwi nurse Kathleen Hall A Season For Persimmons. Early this year Evans was named the recipient of the DEGNZ mentorship with Canadian documentary filmmaker Jennifer Baichwal.

A different Paula Jones, Paula Whetu Jones, also has a project selected for DOC Pitch, He Ao Kotahi, which was seeking support via crowdfunding platform Give A Little earlier this year.

Kim Webby, whose The Price of Peace premiered at last year’s NZIFF and went on to win imagineNATIVE‚Äôs Best Doco award, is named for DOC Pitch with Whale Harvesters.

J.Ollie Lucks is developing a feature doco from his 2015 Loading Docs title Wilbur Force, with Loading Docs creator Julia Parnell on board as producer. The project is currently fundraising on Boosted.

As part of the Pacific Alliance for Documentary and Interactive Storytelling (PADISA) initiative, which will launch at the Wellington leg of the Screen Edge Forum, a number of international projects join this year’s Pitch.
