  • A new & exciting role for an international documentary film festival
  • Paid 6 months part-time – 20 hours/week

The Documentary New Zealand Trust is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that promotes documentary film and filmmaking. It runs the annual Documentary Edge Festival, New Zealand’s only and Australasia’s premiere international documentary film festival. The Festival runs in Wellington and Auckland in May which includes the Docs for Schools Programme.

Docs for Schools provides local schools with the experience of outstanding documentaries during the Festival for free. The programme aims to engage students with current topics in the films and talks presented at the Festival. It offers screening opportunities complete with resource packages to help with lesson plans and links to the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage database of all schools in Auckland & Wellington
  • Work with schools to schedule the Programme into their calendars
  • Develop and distribute Festival information pack to all schools
  • Compile Schools Resource Kits for selected films
  • Publish Festival information in school newsletters, eDMs, other relevant publications
  • Coordinate & manage booking for screenings
  • Liaise logistics, filmmakers, festival/venue staff & other stakeholders
  • Communicate regularly with schools, especially with key media/arts teachers
  • Prepare post Festival debriefs, surveys & reports

To be considered for this role, the applicant would ideally have the following:

  • A good knowledge & networks of the NZ education system, primarily elementary & secondary schools
  • Strong writing, organizational & communication skills
  • A strong, confident and motivated personality to take initiative in their work
  • A team worker
  • Good interpersonal skill with drive and enthusiasm
  • Event management & marketing experience preferred
  • Background in teaching and/or filmmaking would be helpful
