The judges, who include Sean Covel (producer, Napoleon Dynamite), Mark O’Connor (producer, The Hangover) and even Funny or Die’s Joe Farrell said

Everybody Has a Thing is a great idea for a charming comedic short.
The premise is fun and easily relatable, which allows for a fast set-p,
 which this script provides.”

George is no slouch when it comes to comedy, having twice won Tropfest NZ’s Best Māori Director gong: this year for On the Rocks and last year for Sounds Perfect, for which Greg Stubbings also took the Best Actor gong.

Sounds Perfect has been selected for a dozen international film festivals including imagineNATIVE and Austin. Last month George was in Hong Kong for a Film Fest Lab workshop with Oscar-nominated Palestinian filmmaker Scandar Copti (Ajami).

The winners of the ScreenCraft Comedy Script Contest will be announced later this month.
