Fantasia runs more or less alongside the Auckland leg of the NZIFF – but in Montreal and, to a greater or lesser degree, in French. Luckily, genre films don’t always rely on dialogue to connect with their audiences.
Gerard Johnstone’s Housebound makes a return to North America for its Canadian premiere close to the end of the festival’s run.
Paul Glubb & Nic Gorman’s zombie short Here Be Monsters, also making its Canadian premiere, plays in the Small Gauge Trauma programme. Here Be Monsters took the Best Screenplay and Cinematographer gongs from six nominations at last year’s Show Me Shorts.
Fantasia runs 18 July – 6 August.
