Film Awards back for more

After a self-enforced hiatus The Rialto Channel New Zealand Film Awards (aka The Moas) are back from the edge of extinction once again and ready to showcase the brilliant cinema that kiwis have created since their last awards.

Organisers took a year off because of a lull in local production but since then the industry has picked up steam and there are numerous potential nominees for all award categories.

“Everyone in the industry enjoys a good knees up but the upcoming film awards are going to be a quite a special affair considering the breakout success the industry has had domestically and internationally since we had our last shindig,” says Ant Timpson, co-creator of the awards with Hugh Sundae.

Once again Rialto Channel have stepped up to back New Zealand film, alongside the New Zealand Film Commission who believe that without some sort of acknowledgement, we sometimes forget to pause and admire what has actually been accomplished.

“We are thrilled the Moas will be back next year. The awards are a wonderful opportunity for the New Zealand film industry to celebrate each other’s achievements and successes. Congratulations to Ant, Hugh and their team for putting together this fourth edition of the Moa awards,” says Dave Gibson, CEO of the New Zealand Film Commission.

Entries are now open for three weeks only via the website below, and close on Friday December 9th.

The Rialto Channel New Zealand Film Awards take place on Saturday February 18th, and will be live streamed for all on Facebook, and later broadcast on Rialto Channel.

“Rialto Channel is proud to be naming rights sponsor of this year’s, NZ Film Awards. With the of quality of film that is currently being produced in NZ and on our screens this celebration of NZ Film is going to be hotly contested,” says Rialto Channel General Manager Roger Wyllie.
