Free In Deed returns this week

Set in the distinctive world of storefront churches, and based on actual events, Free In Deed depicts one man’s attempts to perform a miracle. From NZ-based writer/director and Associate Professor at The University of Auckland, Dr Jake Mahaffy, Free In Deed has been widely and critically acclaimed, both locally and internationally.

The film was nominated for two awards at The Rialto New Zealand Film Awards: Best Film and Best Director. The film was nominated for a further four awards at last weekend’s Independent Spirit Awards: Best Male Lead (David Harewood), Best Supporting Female (Edwina Findley) and Best Cinematography (Ava Merkofsky). The film was also nominated for the John Cassavetes Award given to the best feature made for under $500,000.
