Arriaga is best known internationally for 21 Grams and Babel, the latter of which earned him BAFTA and Oscar nominations. He also wrote The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, for which he won the Best Screenplay Award at Cannes.
Describing himself as “a hunter who works as a writer” Arriaga is direct in his approach, making him ideal as a mentor.
He joins previously-announced mentors Gyula Gazdag (Artistic Director of the Sundance Filmmakers Lab), screenwriters Michael Goldenberg (Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, Peter Pan), Briar Grace-Smith (The Strength Of Water, Fresh Meat), David Seidler (The King’s Speech) and writer-director Dana Rotberg (White Lies).
Lab participants were announced last week.
While here for the Lab, which runs 8 – 12 July, Arriaga will also present at a special Script to Screen Writers’ Room event on Sunday 12 July.
