The Hong Kong-Asia Financing Forum (HAF) is one of the most important film financing platforms in Asia, offering three competitive line-ups, HAF Project, HAF/Fox Chinese Film Development Award and HAF Script Development Fund.
This year’s HAF winners were led by LUK Yee-sum’s Lazy Hazy Crazy, which took the HAF and iQIYI awards and is now in production. Among the other winners were producer Katja Adomeit (The Weight of Elephants) for Afghani director Shahrbanoo SADAT’s
Wolf and Sheep, which has since picked up support from Busan’s Asian Cinema Fund (as The Orphanage).
Singaporean documentary filmmaker TAN Pin Pin was awarded post-production support for Time Capsule. TAN is one of seven directors contributing to omnibus feature 7 Letters, commissioned to commemorate Singapore’s 50th anniversary of independence on 9 August.
The awards on offer, some presented separately for projects originated in Hong Kong and projects from elsewhere, include several cash awards from HK$50,000 – $150,000, in-kind post production awards, the commemorative Wouter Barendrecht Award (named for the late chair of Fortissimo Films) and awards giving filmmakers trips to other projects including Paris Co-production Village and BiFan’s NAFF.
