The call to cams has been answered for the national DIY music video competition, Radio Active 89FM’s Handle the Jandal. A record 133 entries have been received for the 2009 event, up from last year’s 122.
Handle the Jandal is the annual competition that matches rising music stars with up’n’coming filmmakers. All videos are completely self-funded and may only use New Zealand music.
The 133 entries will now be whittled down to 15 finalists. Judges for this year’s competition have been announced as New Zealand music legend Roger Shepherd, NZ On Air’s David Ridler and Under The Mountain film director Jonathan King.
The panel will then decide Best Editing, Best use of Exploitative Tactics to Promote a Band, Best Cinematography, Best Concept, Best Animation and Rising Star.
An audience vote at the awards night will decide the seventh golden flip flop winner for Favourite Video.
The prize pool for this year’s competition includes services and equipment. Panavision, Sticky Pictures, Portsmouth and Park Road Post are all donating a truck-load of filmmaking goodness for Golden Jandal winners.
The big night will be held at Wellington’s Embassy Theatre, Thursday October 29. Pre-sale tickets are $15 (+ booking fee) on sale soon.
