Bryn Evans’ Hip Hop-eration, which had its first international outing at IDFA late last year, will make its US premiere in competition at the festival.
Just about at the end of its theatrical run here, Hip Hop-eration has taken over $420,000. It also collected three of the four documentary awards at December’s NZ Film Awards. It’s the only NZ title named in the Santa Barbara line-up, although the closing film, McFarland, USA, is directed by Niki Caro.
All up the festival will screen 197 films from 54 countries. All those from beyond the US are having world or US premieres.
SBIFF runs 27 January – 7 February.
