Established in 1999 the company operates a mixed model of being an animation services provider, primarily for major US studios, and developing its own IP. Toonz claims India’s first 2D animated TV series and 3D stereoscopic theatrical releases among its credits.

The NZ office will be run by Mark Nicholls, recently appointed as Director of Toonz Entertainment NZ.

According to Toonz’s release, “The new operation will exploit existing and future animated and live action IP, forging strategic production, licensing, retail and technology partnerships in the region”.

Last year Toonz acquired Spanish company Imira Entertainment.

No detailed plans for the ANZ region have yet been announced, although the release promised “the launch of a new retail product”.
