John Barnett to step down

John Barnett will step down as Chair of SPP at the end of year.

Invitations went out yesterday to an event to celebrate his work at the company which has spanned 24 years and a bunch of addresses, of which a fictional one remains the most famous.

As Producer or Executive Producer he’s overseen several iconic NZ productions, including features Footrot Flats and Whale Rider and TV shows Shortland Street and Outrageous Fortune. In 2003 he was named an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to film.

Two years ago Barnett moved from being South Pacific Pictures’ CEO to Chair, with Kelly Martin taking over the CEO position. Barnett hasn’t announced what his plans are from 1 January next.
