Johnsons go app and away

South Pacific Pictures` upcoming third season of The Almighty Johnsons plans to extends its reach with the addition of a paid iPad app, created by NZ/UK company BeyondTheStory.

SPP CEO Kelly Martin noted, “This innovation is a first for a New Zealand television series and we are delighted to be partnering with BeyondTheStory.”

It`s also a first for BeyondTheStory (BTS), which has not created apps for a TV show before, although the company created the “enhanced e-book”, After Earth: Kitai`s Journal for Sony to accompany the release of M. Night Shyamalan`s After Earth, featuring Will & Jaden Smith.

The “+Books”, developed by BTS, have mostly been used for extending print publications into multi-media, offering images, audio, behind-the-scenes video, 3D content, and real-time updates. The app for Almighty Johnsons will head back the other way, introducing novelised versions of season 3`s 13 episodes as part of the range of content.

Almighty Johnsons` third season commences in NZ on 4 July, with the app arriving during the series run. The app will debut with the show as it begins its TV runs in Australia, Canada, the UK and beyond later in the year.
