Jury favours The Attorney

Woo-seok Yang’s The Attorney took four awards to become the biggest winner at the last of Korea’s awards bashes for the year, the Blue Dragon Awards.

The Blue Dragons largely opted for a different set of winners to Korea’s other major awards event, last month’s Grand Bell awards, where The Admiral: Roaring Currents and The Attorney took four awards apiece.

Sharing similar nominations lists in the categories both ceremonies reward, the Blue Dragon awards favoured The Attorney over The Admiral: Roaring Currents, which took only one juried award, for Best Director. Currents also took the non-juried Box Office award, having become the biggest film ever in Korea after its July release.

The Attorney took Best Film, Director, Supporting Actress and one of the vox pop gongs. Actress Kim Young-ae and vox pop winner Im Si-wan were two of only three winners at the Grand Bell awards to repeat their wins at the Blue Dragons. The third was actor Park Yoo Chun, named Best New Actor for his role in Haemoo.

K-Pop fans will recognise Park from JYJ and Im from ZE:A. Their awards make them the latest in a fairly short line of K-Pop singers (led by T.O.P) who’ve achieved positive reviews after attempting to parlay boy band cuteness into an acting career.
