Canadian-based Lenz Entertainment warms up for MIPCOM by selling Production Shed’s 13 x30 kids’ drama, due to screen here on Maori Television next year, to Australian network ABC.
The story, a tale of the modern world confronted by Maori legend, is based on a Margaret Mahy book. It was adapted by Gavin Strawhan, Michael Bennett and Briar Grace-Smith.
Qantas Award winner for Until Proven Innocent David Paul was Director of Photography. Paul Sutorius, also a Qantas winner for the same drama, edited. Gary Mackay was Production Designer, Gareth Farr composer. The CGI work, including creating an island that eats people, was done by Dunedin-based Animation Research Ltd (ARL).
Shot in High Definition on location in Governor’s Bay outside Christchurch, Kaitangata Twitch completed thirteen weeks of production in May 2009.
Chris Hampson produced the series; Dorothee Pinfold and Yvonne Mackay were Executive Producers. Ms Mckay also directed all 13 episodes.
NZ On Air supported the series, awarding $3.6 million in August last year. Te Mangai Paho granted $56,000 towards script development.
