Long-time South Pacific Pictures Senior Publicist Rachael Keereweer takes on the role of Head of Communications at the production company starting this week. Rachael joined South Pacific Pictures in 2006 as the Shortland Street Publicist, having previously worked at TV3 Publicity. She replaces Tamar Münch who’s left after more than a decade in the role.
Tamar will remain working in the local screen and entertainment industry as a freelance consultant and plans to bring her 20+ years of communications and local production experience to her new solo venture.
“The beauty of working at South Pacific Pictures is that there’s a brilliant infrastructure in place which has allowed me to develop a much broader skill set than I would have in an equivalent role elsewhere,” said Tamar.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working on some of New Zealand’s biggest films and television shows while having the freedom to extend well beyond ‘traditional’ unit publicity. When I started in the role, Facebook was still only open to American college students; Twitter hadn’t yet been invented and YouTube was founded on my first day on the job so I’ve had to develop new social and digital media skills in real time.
“I’ve relished the opportunity of being able to say ‘let’s try this’ and seeing those experiments succeed and I look forward to taking those learnings into the wider industry.”
Despite heading into the freelance world, Tamar will be continuing her association with South Pacific Pictures in a strategic consultancy role.
