The programme is out for this year’s Gold Coast Film Festival (GCFF), which kicks off just after Easter with a NZ title doing the opening night honours.
Matt Murphy’s Pork Pie (pictured, top), which recently passed $1 million at the NZ box office, will open the festival. Aussie actress Ashleigh Cummings (Keira in Pork Pie) does double duty at the fest, also appearing in Ben Young’s Hounds of Love, for which she won an award at last year’s Venice Film Festival.
Pan Nalin’s NZ-India co-pro Beyond the Known World, starring David Wenham and Sia Trokenheim, is also selected. The film is due to open in New Zealand around the same time it plays at the GCFF
Due 20 April, Beyond The Known World
Among the friends and relations selections, expat director Niki Caro’s The Zookeeper’s Wife will play, as will women’s horror anthology XX which has Melanie Lynskey in one of the tales. One of the Aussie imports for Shannara Chronicles, Kendal Rae, plays in an Aussie horror selection, Dee MachLachlan’s Out of the Shadows.
