The New Zealand Writers Guild is proud to present renowned writer Anthony McCarten with a Lifetime Membership Award for services to the New Zealand script writing community. The Lifetime Membership Award – in association with Circa and Playmarket – will be presented to Anthony at a NZ Festival Writers Week event this weekend in Wellington.
Anthony’s career has been broad and rich with acclaim – beginning in journalism and voyaging through novels, plays, screen adaptations and producing. Anthony is a Literary Fellow of the New Zealand Society of Authors, and has enjoyed wide success as a novelist, picking up several prestigious awards. Screen adaptations of several of his own works have met with wide success.
Recent stratospheric successes with The Theory of Everything – on which McCarten was project initiator, screenwriter and producer – include BAFTA wins and Oscar nominations. Among Anthony’s other most notable successes is the penning of Ladies Night – New Zealand’s most commercially successful play of all time and winner of the coveted Molière Prize (France).
This Lifetime Membership Award is intended to celebrate Anthony’s achievements as a script writer and highlight his services to the industry. His drive and passion shine a light on New Zealand creativity and screenwriting.
