Madam Black named on top shorts list

Ivan Barge’s globe-trotting Madam Black has been named among the top international shorts of 2016 by European news and info service Cineuropa.

Cineuropa invited festival directors and programmers to pick their their top five European and one non-European shorts of 2016.

Laurent Crouzeix, who programmes the competition at the world’s most prestigious shorts fest, Clermont-Ferrand, named Madam Black as his non-Euro selection. Madam Black took the Audience Award in Clermont-Ferrand’s international competition last year. Crouzeix said of Barge’s short

Definitely the festival hit of the year. Ivan’s wonderful story probably reached out a wider audience on the festival circuit than a number of features in theaters this year. Success well deserved. A sweet comedy. New Zealand is regularly good at producing great shorts under 15 minutes.

The full list of selections is here. Clermont-Ferrand’s 2017 edition will run 3 – 11 February. Zoe McIntosh’s The World in Your Window is named in the competition line-up.
