Mahana to premiere in Berlin

Travelling under both Mahana and its fka title The Patriarch, Lee Tamahori’s feature will have its world premiere out of competition in Germany as the Berlinale completes its main competition line-up.

23 films are now named in the competition programme, of which five (including Mahana) won’t compete. New films from the Coen Brothers and Spike Lee are among the out of competition titles.

Mahana, which opens here on 3 March, joins the previously-announced Born to Dance in Berlin. Tammy Davis’ feature was named in the first batch of films selected for the festival’s Generation 14plus competition line-up.


This year’s Berlinale runs 11 – 21 February. The complete programme will be available from 3 February. The Berlinale competition programme selections are:
