Mocap Monday at AUT

The second edition of Colab and AUT’s School of Art and Design runs Monday, offering keynotes from an impressive line-up of speakers from here and Australia.

Courtesy of AUT, SCREENZ is able to offer readers a special discount on the ticket price.

Weta Digital, which has been in the mocap business for quite some time now, is represented by Lead Motion Editor Luisma Lavin, who’s been with the company since King Kong.

Having also worked on Avatar, Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy and the last two titles from the Planet of the Apes, Lavin will present on integrating characters in motion into shots.

Among the day’s other industry presentations are two about the upcoming animated doco 25 April, with director Leanne Pooley and Flux’s Brent Chambers, Pooley and Chambers worked with AUT’s Motion Capture Lab on 25 April, which premiered in Toronto this year and arrives on local screens next year. (Take a wild guess at the release date.)

Producer Kurt Bradley and Creative Director Steve Thomson from Brandspank will present on their work with mocap on location, to create the opening sequence for the feed of this year’s Rugby World Cup for the IRB.

The Motion Capture Symposium runs Monday 23 November at AUT. Order tickets here and use the promo code MOCAPINDUSTRY to get a $15 discount on the ticket price.
