Moxion among Callaghan winners

Moxion is among 11 start-up technology companies each receiving $450,000 from Callaghan Innovation’s incubator network.

Moxion is the only screen industry-related company receiving support in this round.

Announcing the awards on Wednesday, Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce said, “The recipients all have the potential to solve global problems. Growing new companies in our high-tech sector is crucial to maintaining a strong growing economy.”

We had a chat with Moxion’s Hugh Calveley and Michael Lonsdale about their plans last month on Crewed. The company’s work sits comfortably within the barrow government has been pushing since it was trying to avoid increasing incentive rates back in 2013, that the screen industry should work to develop more of its own IP as well as creating content.

The Callaghan support is in the form of loans, intended to help generate revenue from products, rather than develop them. Loans are repayable when companies begin to earn revenue from their venture.

The 1 companies supported with loans were:

  • Aptamer
  • Fishery Logistics
  • HiAspect
  • HiVolt Fluidics
  • Mastaplex Limited
  • Moxion
  • Nyriad Limited
  • Onesixone Limited
  • Pheromite
  • Pop In Technologies
  • Upstream Medical Technologies
