New blood ready to be let

The New Blood Web Series Competition is now open for voting, with 10 finalists competing for NZ On Air’s $100K cheque to turn the pilot into a series for TVNZ OD.

The competition drew 163 submissions, presumably including many which had failed to get funding directly from NZ On Air in recent web series funding rounds. The volume of entries has extended the selection process, with voting originally intended to be completed last month.

There are plenty of familiar creators of successful short form content in the mix, with Aidee Walker (Friday Tigers), Roberto Nascimento (The Adventures of Suzy Boon), Luci Hare (Auckward Love) , Kyan Krumdieck (The Grind), Joe Hitchcock (Kismet, Blood Sugar) and Morgan Leigh Stewart (K Road Stories) having finalist shows.

The finalists are:
Cheeky First Dates, by Louis Mendiola and Andrew Munro
Dick, by Alexander Gandar and Aidee Walker
The Fucket List, by Chelsea McEwan Millar, Elizabeth McMenamin and Tim Batt
Grandma Knows Best, starring Samuel Christopher and Chris Parker
LiBros, by Louis Mendiola and Roberto Nascimento (pictured, top)
Oddly Even, by Isla McLeod and Ashleigh Reid
Shop Girls, by Catherine Mack and Luci Hare
The Sisterhood, by Kyan Krumdieck
Starship Kids, by Joe Hitchcock and Morgan Leigh Stewart
The Woolston Complex, by Tim McInnes
