NZ Web Fest scores judges

The inaugural NZ Web Fest #NZWF15 is excited to announce the judges who’ll decide the winners of this year’s awards.

#NZWF15 will present four awards, for Best Web Series, Web Show, YouTube Channel and Up & Coming YouTube Channel. Finalists for the four awards categories will be announced on Tuesday (13 October).

Judging the finalists this year will be an extremely honourable, trustworthy and, above all, talented bunch of professionals from various areas of the screen industries.

International judge SIMON BRITTON is the founder of the Australian Online Video Awards (OVAs) and publisher of Australia’s leading online screen content e-bulletin ScreenPro.

ANNA DEAN is a PR maven and winner of last year’s Best Independent Marketing Campaign Award for her work promoting Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s feature What We Do In The Shadows.

Kraft Haus Media’s DAVID STUBBS and THOMAS ROBIN set a high bar for NZ web series in 2010 when their Reservoir Hill, one of the earliest web series supported by NZ On Air, won an International Digital Emmy Award.

KARL PUSCHMANN writes about pop culture for the New Zealand Herald and reviews movies for Radio NZ.

President of the Directors and Editors Guild of New Zealand (DEGNZ) PETER ROBERTS edited The Dark Horse, Hip Hop-eration and short Dive, all of which won Best Film awards at last year’s New Zealand Film Awards.

ROBBIE SPARGO is TVNZ’s Content Strategist. Previously he worked on social media activity and solutions for Johnson & Laird Management and FremantleMedia.

Actress TANDI WRIGHT is a vice-president of Actors Equity and a familiar face from local and international TV shows including The Returned, This Is Not My Life and Nothing Trivial.

Judges will view the finalists’ work independently and make their decisions over the next couple of weeks. Finalists for the four awards categories will be announced on Tuesday (13 October) and winners revealed at #NZWF15.

Presenters so far announced for the event include YouTube sensation Jamie Curry and award-winning web series creators Peter Haynes (JF2: Primal Fury, AFK); Roseanne Liang (Flat 3, upcoming Friday Night Bites and feature My Wedding & Other Secrets); Roberto Nascimento (The Adventures of Suzy Boon).
