NZIFF announces Ngā Whanaunga programme

Over the weekend the New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF) announced the eight Māori and Pasifika short films of the Ngā Whanaunga Māori Pasifika Shorts Programme.

Curated by Wairoa Director Leo Koziol and Pollywood Director Craig Fasi, the programme spans a good part of the Pacific

The films selected are Giacomo Martelli’s Samoan language Coral, Tihini Grant’s Elevation, Andrew John Fakaua Ponton’s Islet (Tuvalu), Christopher Kahunahana’s Lāhainā Noon (Hawai’i), Nikki Si’ulepa’s Ma, Li Gent Xin’s Mrs Mokemoke, Pablo Araus Lobos’ Netta Jones and Mika’s Taniwha.

The NZIFF’s full programme will be available in Auckland on 23 June, in Wellington on 26 June, and rolled out into other centres from then. This year’s NZIFF runs in Auckland 16 July – 2 August; in Wellington 24 July – 9 August, with visits to 10 other centres confirmed until late September.
