NZIFF teases old and new

The NZIFF has announced two classics and the world premiere of a local title for this year’s edition.

The festival will present the world premiere of Alison Maclean’s The Rehearsal, adapted from Eleanor Catton’s novel. The Rehearsal will have its world premiere at the Civic Theatre on 23 July. Starring James Rolleston, Kerry Fox, Ella Edward, Alice Englert and Marlon Williams, The Rehearsal tells the story of Stanley (Rolleston), a naïve 1st year drama student who seeks to impress his charismatic tutor, Hannah (Fox).

Aucklanders get a pair of screenings of classic titles with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra accompanying the screenings live. The titles are Fred Neymeyer and Sam Taylor’s 1923 Hal Roach comedy Safety Last! with Harold Lloyd, and Ewald Andre Dupont’s 1925 German title Variety.

Tickets are now on sale for the one-off screenings of Safety Last! and Variety.
